Author's Notes: Thanks to Rach, Victoria and Nancy for the beta. All
mistakes made after they did their magic are the fault of my computer, it is
old enough and should know better. This is all Diebin's fault. I was
writing other stories when she popped up with her wonderful trailer fics. This is based on picture #52.
Special Thanks: As always, to Victoria for a few kind words that inspired me to
post my gibberish.
Thought Waves: Arnold in the corvette scene from True Lies.
"Rogue, you know the rules. All Xavier students must take Driver's
Education. I don't care what you already know about driving."
"Ok, ok. Then let's take the Mazda," Rogue said, walking away from the
sedan before Scott could protest. "Besides it only makes sense that I learn
on a manual before I drive an automatic."
"The class studied the sedan, not the RX-8. You know nothing about it."
She smiled mischievously, "What do you want to know?"
"Engine?"
"It's a water cooled two-rotor engine with 1308cc of displacement, 250bhp
of horsepower at 8500rpm, 162lb-ft of torque at 7500rpm and a 6 speed manual
transmission."
"Chassis and body?
"Double wishbone, multi-link, rack and pinion suspension, and vented disc
brakes."
"Anything else?" he asked, impressed with her knowledge.
"The Mazda RX-8 has superb handling due to light weight, perfectly balanced
50:50 weight distribution and low yaw inertia moment and center of gravity.
The RENESIS rotary engine is smaller and lighter than Mazda's previous turbo
the 13B-REW. It's mounted further back and lower than in the RX-7, making
the center of gravity behind the front axle. This gives it a larger
crushable zone, for better impact absorption. It has superior side-impact
performance also." Scott nodded his approval.
She quickly struck a girlie poise, twirling a strand of hair around her
finger. "It's also black and shiny, with a leather interior."
He gave a small snort and a grin at her change in behavior. "Quit fooling
around and get behind the wheel."
Rogue patiently went through the entire predriving checklist with him
before turning the ignition.
"Alright Rogue, ease out of the garage, down the drive and turn left onto
the main road."
"No problem." She slipped the car into gear, spinning the wheels as they
flew out of the garage. "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that they RX-8 does
zero to sixty in six seconds and the quarter mile in fourteen point five
seconds."
Scott was dumbstruck as she whipped out of the drive onto the road. He
could only stare in awe when she shifted gears like a professional race car
driver.
Finding his voice, he tried not to yell. "Rogue. Slow this car down."
"Hell Scooter, what's the use of having a car like this if you don't blow
the cobwebs out once in awhile?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow at him.
"Have you absorbed Logan lately?"
"Well, now that you ask..." Rogue took both hands from the wheel, turning
slightly to face Scott, proceeding to use one hand to point to her elbow.
"...I did have this little cut here, he insisted on healing this morning."
Scott turned to look at her. His knuckles turning white as he gripped the
console and door handle, his forgotten clipboard falling to the floor.
Finally losing his calm, he yelled. "Both hands on the wheel! Watch the
road!"
A look of horror crept over her face, her head wagging from side to side
staring at her hands still in the air. "Ohmygod! Ohmygod! We'regonnadie!"
She completed the scene with a scream.
Rogue's scream quickly turned to wicked laughter as she put her hands back
on the wheel. "Superb handling, remember. This baby is easy to steer with
a knee."
"Turn this car around right now and head back to the mansion."
Without questioning him; she expertly spun the car into a kitty, turning it
back in the direction they had just come from. Shifting easily, they sped
back toward the mansion. After several more maneuvers any stunt driver
would be proud of, she parked the car in the garage in its original
position. Calmly unfastening her seat belt, she exited the vehicle.
"Hey darlin', that was quick. How'd your driving lessons go?" Logan
asked, leaning up against one of the parked automobiles.
They both watched in interest when Scott staggered from the car looking
pale and shaken. He fumbled with his clipboard as he approached them.
"Logan will be taking over your lessons from now on, Rogue." Scott turned
and weaved his way out of the garage holding his stomach.
"I told you I could get him to agree to letting you teach me to drive."
"That you did darlin'. You want to learn to ride the Harley now?"
The End
